Ransom Demand Issued With Bomb Threat At Whitney High School


CERRITOS, CA — A hoax bomb threat and ransom attempt triggered the shutdown of a high school in Cerritos Thursday.

Students at Whitney High School in Cerritos was evacuated when a suspect called a sheriff’s station and threatened to detonate explosives at the campus unless a $10,000 ransom was paid.

Deputies responded around 12:50 p.m. to the campus at 16800 Shoemaker and escorted the students to Cerritos Park East located at 13150 E. 166th St. From there, they where were released to their parents, authorities said.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the campus, and the investigation continued late Thursday afternoon.

Authorities later gave the all-clear, an ABC Unified School District public information officer told KTLA.
