Snow could fall at higher elevations on B.C. south coast Saturday: Environment Canada

The weather agency says areas above 200 metres could see two to five centimetres of snow accumulate through the day

Environment Canada has posted a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley about the possibility of snow at higher elevations beginning Saturday morning.

An incoming cold front should mostly bring rain to the B.C. south coast, but it could change to snow over higher terrain as the temperature stays low through the day Saturday.

Elevations above 200 metres are most likely to see snowfall, with accumulations around two to five centimetres predicted. Closer to sea level, no accumulations are expected but the precipitation may fall as wet snow at times, according to the national weather agency.

Drivers should prepare for possible winter conditions especially at higher elevation.

The statement stretches from the North Shore through Metro and the Fraser Valley including Abbotsford and Chilliwack.
